Otra de las grandes bromas del 1 de abril. MPEG-21 permitiría aumentar la eficiencia de la transmisión de vídeo eliminando la ropa de las personas que aparezcan en imagen (se entiende que para reconstruirla posteriormente):
Evidently the complex patterns within human clothing account for 90% of the total bandwidth associated with character compression. James Johnson from ISO summed up the new technique by saying: ?It?s just easier to press the flesh?. The new technology will endeavor to remove the clothing from characters and store these as separate 3D textures. These textures will then be reapplied to an approximation of the naked character. When asked why the character needed to be naked rather than a basic stick figure, James Johnson replied that it was easier to wrap the 3D textures around a fuller body than it was to apply them over a stick figure. He went on to say that this would help to reduce the processor overheads associated with the decompression process.
